Our story
Cottontail Farm is a small-scale flower and pumpkin farm located in Longmont, Colorado and founded by partners Ginny and George. When we purchased our home in the fall of 2020, we never imagined we’d become farmers. The property, a 3-acre lot zoned for agriculture, was simply a big, empty grass field that we thought would be perfect for a small garden and provide plenty of room for our dogs to play. But as we settled in and realized just how much space 3 acres was, the idea of turning the property into something more began to take root.
Determined to make better use of the land, we began exploring options and discovered a startling fact: over 80% of flowers sold in the U.S. are imported, creating a significant carbon footprint. Inspired by the idea of sustainably growing an abundance of flowers on a small scale, we decided to transform the land into something meaningful. In 2022, Cottontail Farm was born, a flower and pumpkin farm with a focus on regenerative agriculture.
Over the last three seasons, we’ve watched our farm grow alongside our passion for local agriculture. Today, we are committed to sustainable, regenerative farming practices to grow high-quality flowers, pumpkins, and vegetables without the use of pesticides or herbicides. Our mission is to bring joy to our community with beautiful, fresh flowers and produce and to highlight the importance of supporting local agriculture.
Growing Practices
We’ve built our farming practices around the principles of regenerative agriculture and sustainability. Our goal is to not only produce high-quality crops, but also improve the land we steward.
Our no-till approach helps keep the soil structure intact and carbon in the ground. We build healthy soil by adding compost, planting cover crops, and mulching with wood chips to protect against erosion and support soil life.
We are committed to never using pesticides or herbicides. This keeps our flowers and produce safe for pollinators, people, and the environment.
Water conservation is important to us in our hot, dry climate. We use drip irrigation to water efficiently, getting moisture right to the roots while reducing evaporation.
Every decision we make is guided by a desire to care for the land, produce sustainably grown flowers, pumpkins, and vegetables, and contribute to a healthier, more resilient future for our community and the planet.
